The Cure
This is a portrait of a plague doctor.
During the Bubonic Plague, the physicians roamed the streets wearing these masks, carrying a cane.
The masks were stuffed with herbs and scented flowers to protect them from the 'smell of death' and the canes were used to examine patients without having to touch them.
