Indefinite Prayer
This piece depicts a hand holding a mala (prayer beads).
There are forms of meditation wherein the practitioner is required to withdraw their attention, which generally is directed at multiple objects in a scattered form, and direct it to one object. This enables the practitioner to recollect their mind, give it rest, sharpen it, and most importantly, become aware of it.
The object to which the scattered attention is redirected could be anything which is simple and not requiring much mental effort/scattering. Some use their own breath, some use a handheld prayer wheel, and in my own experience, I have seen many people use prayer beads. Most of the time even the practitioners do not realize how the activity of doing something so simple is capturing and refining their attention.
