Desolate
I used to doodle a lot on the last pages of my school and college notebooks, and had at least one scarecrow sketched behind most of them. The last pages of school notebooks are places of wild, growing imagination of school children. They symbolize a kind of creativity which one wants to express, but due to the inability to find an outlet for it in the formal academic setting (the front pages), it ends up in the space one can find (the last pages). I found, for myself at least, that the magnitude of creativity expressed in the last page of the notebook is directly proportional to the boredom being experienced in the class.
Back when I had the easel in my room, everyday I would wake up to see a blank canvas, with the possibility of something new. One night I had a dream of one of those classes, and ended up painting this the next day.
I textured the canvas using gesso before painting.
