Vipassana I

This piece depicts a monk in a meditative state. The title translates to insight.

As you can see, the monk has no mouth but instead a purple flower. This symbolizes the meditative experience of gaining insight and realization of being that cannot be expressed in words, but is very often described as experiencing a flower opening up in oneself.

I textured the canvas using gesso before painting. This is the center piece of a series of three paintings.
